Today, the AFL-CIO announced the addition of SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris to its Executive Council.
“Gabrielle is a long-time union activist who is not afraid to stand up and fight for what’s best for her fellow actors,” said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. “I am proud to welcome her to the Executive Council, and look forward to working with her to make the lives of all working people better.”
“I’m thrilled to join the AFL-CIO executive council and look forward to working with my fellow council members to advance the interests of SAG-AFTRA members and those of our brother and sister unions,” said Carteris. “I want to thank President Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler, Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre and all of my fellow council members for this great honor and tremendous opportunity.”
Carteris was elected to her first term as executive vice president at the inaugural SAG-AFTRA Convention in 2013 and reelected at the Convention in 2015. She served in numerous roles within SAG and AFTRA before the merger, and was instrumental in developing the merger plan.
Carteris is a working actor who recently played a recurring role on the primetime series Code Black. She became a household name playing Andrea Zuckerman on the Aaron Spelling TV show Beverly Hills, 90210.
