By meeting the needs of dockworkers for health care, job security, economic
security, safety and good pensions while also addressing important technology issues, the ILWU has negotiated a truly historic tentative contract for its members. This tremendous victory shows that through the process of collective bargaining, workers can harness technology and make it a winning situation for them.
ILWU President Spinosa and the ILWU Committee should be commended for their tremendous leadership and skill throughout the contract negotiations. They've won a tentative contract that is not only good for the members and their families, but one that will benefit their whole communities. This is a landmark victory for the ILWU members and for the entire union movement.
