Today President Bush showed once again how unbelievably out of touch he and the Republican leadership are when it comes to the economic concerns of working people. On his way to a glitzy fundraiser for Ohio Sen. Mike DeWine, the President held a brief press opportunity this afternoon to tout what he calls a “strong” economy. If the President had bothered to listen to the working people of Ohio, he would know that the economy there and in many areas of the country is failing working families. Does the President really expect the 195,000 Ohioans who’ve lost good manufacturing jobs on his watch to believe their economy is strong?
The truth about the President’s tax cuts is they have overwhelmingly benefited the super-wealthy – and saddled working people with a huge federal deficit. It’s time to chart a new economic course that respects and empowers working people. America’s workers want good jobs, fair trade policies, retirement security and health care coverage. What they don’t need is more of the same tired rhetoric propping up policies that have hurt the economy and decimated so many communities in Ohio and throughout the country.
