Not Politics as Usual

Keith Strobelt went to work at the Timken Company in 1978, at age 19. He is proud of his job and of Timken, which manufactures alloyed steel and bearings, products that are used for everything from military to hospital and space equipment.

“I believe in this country,” Keith says, “but I believe we’ve gone astray. Our way of life is very much in danger. I can see the writing on the wall.”

Like so many union members, Keith is involved in this year’s midterm elections. He chairs his district’s rapid response committee, a group charged with educating union members and the community about working family issues.

“It’s not politics as usual this year,” says Keith, about Ohio. “We have a unique opportunity to turn this state around and put it back in the hands of working people—where it belongs.”
