JIM WEBB WILL FIGHT FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Protecting American Jobs. Jim Webb will lead the movement in the Senate to end job exporting, starting by eliminating tax breaks that encourage companies to send American jobs overseas. (The Cavalier Daily, 4/28/06; Martinsville Bulletin, 9/24/06)

Raising the Minimum Wage. Jim Webb has pledged to introduce and support legislation raising the minimum wage from its current level of $5.15 an hour to $7.25. (Webb for Senate Press Release, 6/29/06)

Supporting Union Workers. Jim Webb knows collective bargaining helps all working families by improving wages, benefits and safety standards in the workplace. He supports workers’ efforts to regain the benefits they have lost, including better health care and pension coverage. (Daily Press, 9/19/06)

 

GEORGE ALLEN HAS IGNORED WORKING FAMILIES

Sent Our Jobs Overseas. Allen voted for bad trade agreements like the Central America Free Trade Agreement, sending our jobs overseas and weakening worker protections. (S. 1307, 8/2/05)

Repeatedly Refused to Increase the Minimum Wage. Allen voted against increasing the minimum wage multiple times and in 1991 was one of only six legislators to oppose an increase from $2.65 an hour to $3.65 an hour. Hurts Jobless Workers. Allen voted against unemployment benefits for disaster victims who have exhausted state benefits, against health care and additional Medicaid coverage for unemployed workers and against investing $801 million into youth opportunity grants and programs for job development.
