Fogarty will help make sure the state does more to ensure Rhode Island’s businesses succeed by supporting the sales tax holiday. And he’ll work to help diversify Rhode Island’s industries. (www.citizensforfogarty.com)

Fights for Affordable Health Care.
Fogarty has led the effort to make quality health care affordable for all Rhode Islanders. As lieutenant governor, he sponsored the “Fogarty Law,” requiring quality reports for hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities. DONALD CARCIERI HAS TURNED HIS BACK ON WORKING FAMILIES

Failed to Preserve Our Jobs and Wages.
Under Gov. Carcieri, Rhode Island has its highest unemployment rate in more than 10 years and was the only Northeastern state that failed to have an increase in wages between 2000 and 2004. (www.bls.gov; Poverty Institute at Rhode Island College, September 2005)

Proposed Cutting Health Care.
Carcieri proposed cutting adults and children from Rite Care—the health insurance program that benefits thousands of working families. (The Associated Press, 7/16/06)

Attacked Employee Benefits.
Don Carcieri proposed large increases in state workers’ health insurance costs and cuts in retirement benefits. He backed legislation preventing workers from choosing a health care provider in union contracts.
