U.S. House of Representatives, New York, District 24

MICHAEL ARCURI FIGHTS FOR  WORKING FAMILIES

Supports Raising the Minimum Wage.
Michael Arcuri supports raising the federal minimum wage to $7.25 an hour because it would eliminate the competitive disadvantage New York business owners face. (Utica Observer-Dispatch, 6/28/06)

Protects Our Retirement Security.
Michael Arcuri strongly opposes privatizing Social Security. “Privatization will actually make Social Security’s fi nancial status worse and likely require massive benefi t cuts,” he says. (Utica Observer-Dispatch, 6/23/06)

Opposes Exporting Our Jobs.
Michael Arcuri will fi ght against “unfair trade bills that disadvantage our workers, cost our region jobs and fail to provide essential job-training assistance to U.S. workers” because “Herkimer County has lost almost 1,000 manufacturing jobs in the last six years.” (Arcuri press release, 9/14/06)

RAY MEIER PUTS WORKING FAMILIES AT RISK

Ray Meier sent good jobs overseas, reduced workers’ compensation and denied us unemployment insurance. He shortchanged our children’s education and increased the costs of health care. Between September 2004 and March 2005, Ray Meier spent $276,396 in taxpayer dollars to run his state senate office. (Poughkeepsie Journal, 1/19/04; Utica Observer-Dispatch, 4/20/06; Bureau of Labor Statistics, 5/06; Current Population Survey, 10/05; Kaiser Family Foundation, 2005; Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, 2005; Syracuse Post-Standard, 8/7/05; Utica Observer-Dispatch, 11/14/04)
