Straight Facts About Our Candidates

U.S. House of Representatives, New Mexico, District 1

PATRICIA MADRID WILL FIGHT FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Protects Our Seniors. Patricia Madrid knows Medicare Part D is a failure and does not provide needed services for our seniors because it is “confusing, chaotic and corrupt.” Her plan to “fix the failing Medicare prescription drug plan really focuses on the goal of helping seniors.” (Albuquerque Journal, 4/19/06; National Journal, 2/7/06)

Protects Our Freedom to Form Unions. “Revising the definition of ‘supervisor’ to try to block workers from organizing is wrong. Our country and our state have a proud tradition of strong unions representing and protecting workers. That must not change.” (Kentucky River Event, Madrid Remarks, 7/18/06; Albuquerque Journal, 7/19/06)

Fights to Lower Gas Prices. Patricia Madrid held a rally with IBEW workers to pledge her opposition to any energy bill that gives breaks to big oil companies. “Working New Mexicans are paying $3 a gallon for gas they need to get to their jobs,” she said. “This is not acceptable.” (Albuquerque Journal, 8/18/06; Madrid Press Release, 4/27/06)

HEATHER WILSON  HAS FAILED WORKING FAMILIES

Picked Big Drug Companies over Seniors. Heather Wilson voted for the Medicare prescription drug law that penalizes our seniors and gives billions to the health care industry—the same industry that has given her more than $105,000 in campaign contributions. (H.R. 1, Vote #669, 11/22/2003; www.opensecrets.org)

Opposed Our Freedom to Form Unions. Heather Wilson opposes our freedom to form unions free from employer intimidation. (H.R. 1696, 7/22/05)

Increased Gas Prices. Heather Wilson voted against cracking down on gas price gouging and for an energy bill that gave billions to oil, gas and nuclear industries—the same industries that have given her nearly $400,000 in campaign contributions. (H.R. 3402, Vote #500, 9/28/2005; H.R. 6, Vote #445, 7/28/2005; www.opensecrets.org)
