Straight Facts About Our Candidates

U.S. House of Representatives, Indiana, District 2

JOE DONNELLY FIGHTS FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Protects Good American Jobs.

Joe Donnelly adamantly opposed CAFTA and warned it would result in American job loss. He says that with free trade agreements like these, “The American worker is the one who winds up on the short end of the stick.” (South Bend Tribune, 8/4/05, 8/1/05)

Fights for Our Health Care.

Joe Donnelly understands that health care today is a necessity, not a benefi t. “I think every American should have the same health care plan as members of Congress do.” (www.donnellyforuscongress.com)

Protects Our Social Security.

Joe Donnelly will oppose privatization of Social Security. He says, “I will not allow any person, political party or special interest group to recklessly gamble with your Social Security benefits.” (2006 Indiana State AFL-CIO Candidate Questionnaire; www.donnellyforuscongress.com).

CHRIS CHOCOLA THREATENS OUR JOBS AND WAGES

Indiana has lost 12,300 manufacturing jobs since Chocola took office—yet he opposes expanding unemployment benefits for workers and supports free trade agreements like CAFTA that send our jobs overseas. He thinks increasing the minimum wage is “problematic” and voted to raid the Social Security Trust Fund. As chairman of CTB International Corp., Chocola cut health care benefits for retirees but gave more than $1 million in bonuses to corporate executives. (H.R. 95, Vote #149, 4/28/05; H.C.R. 95, Vote #88, 3/17/05; S.C.R. 95, Vote #198, 5/19/04; South Bend Tribune, 8/7/05; Bureau of Labor Statistics; H.R. 27, Vote #48, 3/2/05; H.R. 3030, 2/4/04; Center on Budget and Policy Priorities; H.R. 2660, 7/10/03; Saint Mary’s University Wire, 10/12/04; Securities and Exchange Commission; CTB Annual Report 2000; 2001 Proxy Statement; Clerk of the House)
