A STRONG VOICE

DAN AKAKA has a 95 percent lifetime congressional record of voting with working families. He has fought hard in the Senate for Hawaii’s workers and will continue to work to keep high-paying jobs in our state.

 

Fights for Our Jobs.

Sen. Akaka voted to penalize companies that ship jobs overseas. He has consistently voted against unfair trade agreements like CAFTA, which send our jobs overseas and erode our wages. He supports Buy American laws and the Jones Act to protect Hawaii’s shipping industry jobs. (S.B. 1637, 4/5/04; S. 1307, 6/30/05; Honolulu Advertiser, 7/10/06)

 

Supports Our Union Rights.

Sen. Akaka co-sponsored the Employee Free Choice Act to protect our freedom to form unions free from employer intimidation. (S. 842, 2005)

 

Fought for Affordable Health Care.

Sen. Akaka voted to protect seniors from steep increases in their premiums and supports fixing the fl awed Medicare drug program. He also voted to save Medicaid from $14 billion in cuts. (www.akaka2006.org; S. 1932, Vote #287, 11/3/05; S.C.R. 18, Vote #58)
