Straight Facts About Our Candidates

U.S. House of Representatives, Connecticut, District 4

DIANE FARRELL WILL FIGHT FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Supports Seniors. Diane Farrell rebuilt Westport’s Senior Center and believes the Medicare prescription drug plan “doesn’t put seniors in the front seat, and that’s its fatal flaw. (The Norwalk Hour, 12/12/05;Westport Now, 4/11/06)

Will Fight for Affordable Health Care. Diane Farrell wants to “protect Social Security, and give families and small businesses tax credits to help pay for health care.” (Farrell campaign ad)

Opposes Gimmicks that Hurt Working Families. Diane Farrell understands that “moving toward health savings accounts is too simplistic an answer to the nation’s health care problems.” (The Stamford Advocate, 4/6/06)

CHRIS SHAYS HAS FAILED WORKING FAMILIES

Picked Big Drug Companies Over Seniors. Chris Shays voted for the Medicare prescription drug bill that penalizes our seniors and gives billions to the health care industry, the same industry that has given Shays more than $80,000. (H.R.1, Vote #669, 11/22/2003; www.opensecrets.org)

Increased Costs of Our Health Care. Chris Shays voted to increase insurance premiums for working families and voted for health care saving accounts that shift costs—and risks—to workers. (H.R. 525, Vote #426, 7/26/05; Press Release, 4/7/06)

Limited Patients’ Rights. Chris Shays sided with HMOs to limit the rights of injured patients and to create special protections for negligent HMOs. (H.R. 2663, 8/2/01)
