Making Higher Education Affordable

Working families want and need education and training beyond high school. Union activists lobby state policymakers for strong support of public colleges and universities. They also bargain for benefits such as employer-provided tuition in union contracts and offer programs to help with college costs.

The workers who make U.S. colleges and universities the envy of the world—the graduate teaching assistants, part- and full-time faculty and other staff—are organizing and mobilizing for a voice on the job to improve education.
