Annual King Day Observance

The AFL-CIO’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance honors the life and work of Dr. King. This event reinforces the historic bond between the labor and civil rights movements, honors King’s vision that collective action—whether at the voting booth or at the workplace—mobilizes participants to continue their work to make King’s dream a reality.

The 2014 observance will be held Jan. 16-20 in San Antonio, where they celebrate DreamWeek for 12 days – a city-wide summit promoting an exchange of ideas on universal issues facing San Antonio’s multi-cultural communities. The mission is to advance and modernize the teachings set forth by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision; to lay the foundation of tolerance, by creating dialog across cultures and communities. DreamWeek will inspire and motivate participants to exchange ideas and insights on a range of subjects. It culminates with the country’s largest MLK march.

We have a dynamic line up of guest speakers, intriguing workshop discussions, and exciting community service projects. In addition, we will integrate some of the DreamWeek events, such as the interfaith service and march.

Join us in San Antonio for the labor movement’s celebration of Dr. King and his legacy.
