Happy Labor Day: You Earned It
Today, on Labor Day, we celebrate the incredible contributions of America’s working people. If you're celebrating at home or want to see what's going on in your area, check out the “You Work Hard. You’ve Earned It” Labor Day website, where you can find:
Labor Day events in your area;
Downloadable Labor Day placards and stickers;
A Twitter feed for #1UEARNEDIT;
Labor Day graphics from our friends and allies;
The latest workers’ news and more.
But the site also reminds us that we’re working longer hours, taking on multiple jobs and producing more goods and services. Yet our wages have flatlined, except for those at the very top. (Text LABOR to 235246 to test your knowledge on wages and productivity—standard data and message rates may apply.) Millions of aspiring citizens work in the shadows where unscrupulous employers can exploit them without fear.
While Labor Day traditionally honors what workers have done, this year we need to look forward and commit ourselves to moving America to invest in good jobs and decent wages and to reform our broken immigration system to create a road map to citizenship for aspiring Americans. For union and nonunion workers; low wage, blue collar and white collar; documented and undocumented—this should be the country of opportunity.
You work hard every day. You earned it.
