Army Medical Center Workers Vote for AFGE
Workers at two Army medical centers voted to join AFGE in an election that concluded last week. The 3,700 health care employees were part of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center and were transferred to two new medical centers and other regional facilities when Walter Reed was shut down in 2001.
Under the new Department of Defense Joint Task Force National Capital Region Medical, the majority of the employees work at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Va.
AFGE President J. David Cox Sr. said, “We are excited to welcome these dedicated health care workers to the AFGE family and look forward to negotiating a strong collective bargaining agreement to improve their working conditions.” He added:
