What’s in the State of the Union for Young Workers?

As AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka noted, President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night was filled with “eloquent and forceful advocacy for working families,” including combating income inequality, raising wages and strengthening unions. Obama’s address also contained a number of proposals that would have a significant impact on young workers and that also coincide with the recently released AFL-CIO’s youth economic platform.

Trumka: Obama 'Forcefully Advocated for Working Families' in State of Union

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said, "President Obama eloquently and forcefully advocated for working families throughout his State of the Union Address," last night. He also said:

The  president’s focus on raising wages through collective bargaining, better paying jobs, a fairer tax code, fair overtime rules, and expanded access to education and earned leave sent the right message at the right time.
