Pelletier Elected to Lead Connecticut AFL-CIO

Lori J. Pelletier will lead the Connecticut AFL-CIO after delegates to the state federation’s convention elected her to the newly created position of executive secretary-treasurer, which will be the principal officer running the federation’s day-to-day operations. She has served as secretary-treasurer since 1999. Pelletier is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to the top office at an AFL-CIO state federation.

Union Radio Show Spotlights Sequester as Working Families Call for Repeal

As part of  Wednesday’s national day of action to repeal the sequester, “Building Unions,” a weekly radio show from the Connecticut AFL-CIO and Greater Hartford Central Labor Council will discuss sequestration, its impact on working families and the drive to repeal the across-the-board budget cuts.

The show airs from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on WATR 1320 AM. Click on the “Listen Live” button to stream the show that will feature Connecticut AFL-CIO President John Olsen, labor council President Peggy Buchanan and members of AFGEAFT and the Machinists (IAM).

Momentum Grows for Immigration Reform with Pathway to Citizenship

More than 160 state and local labor federations and central labor councils have passed resolutions in support of comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for aspiring citizens already in the United States.  The labor organizations that have passed resolutions so far come from 39 different states and represent more than 6 million workers.
