Stagehands Help the Foo Fighters Rickroll Westboro Baptist Church Members

Unions Hope to Avert Off-Stage Tragedy at N.Y.’s Metropolitan Opera

An epic tragedy is unfolding at the Metropolitan Opera , but the drama isn’t onstage. Six local unions of the   International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees ( IATSE )   represent backstage employees at the Metropolitan Opera and they, along with the other Met Opera unions, are getting blamed for the Met’s growing financial crisis.

'Slates for Sarah' Honors Lost Life and Calls for Movie Set Safety

On Feb. 20, Sarah Jones, who was working as 2nd assistant camera on the film "Midnight Rider" in Jesup, Ga.,  died on a train trestle  at the age of 27. Several other crew members were injured, some severely, as well. Her friends and supporters set up a Facebook page,  Slates for Sarah , to honor her life and to raise awareness about safety on movie sets.

The winners will be the persons or organizations that go above and beyond to expand or protect the rights of working families, while the losers will be whoever went above and beyond to limit or deny those rights.

No Fancy Commercials, but Super Bowl is Brought to You by Union Members

Sunday was the first outdoor, cold weather site Super Bowl in the game’s 48-year history. The frigid weather in the weeks leading up to the game didn't  stop the thousands of union members who brought you the game. On the scene at MetLife Stadium in the New Jersey Meadowlands or behind the scenes at many facilities in the Metro New York-New Jersey area, union members made the nation’s national party day possible.

SAG-AFTRA  honored outstanding motion picture and television performances at its annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremonies Jan. 18. Rita Moreno received  the union's highest honor, the 50th Annual Life Achievement Award.
