After Tuesday's historic election victories for President Obama and many pro-working family candidates, newspaper headlines give credit where credit is due.

In a huge voter outreach push in the final days of the election cycle, the AFL-CIO political program in Ohio completed more than 800,000 voter contacts. That far exceeds previous election years. The unprecedented level of voter communication capped the massive effort under way since Labor Day that reached more than 2 million Ohio voters with 80,000 volunteer shifts.

More than 100 New Hampshire union members joined Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) for a get-out-the-vote Obama–Biden rally today outside Manchester’s Verizon Wireless Arena, where Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak tonight. Also at the rally were UAW President Bob King, New Hampshire AFL-CIO President Mark MacKenzie and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.).   

If you live in an area of New York state that was hit by Hurricane Sandy last week and need information about voting tomorrow—if your regular polling place will be open, if it’s been moved, what hours it will be open—visit the New York State AFL-CIO’s special voting update website.   

You will find links to your county’s Board of Elections and other agencies, plus information on last-minute get out the vote volunteer opportunities.

Over these final few days before Election Day, AFL-CIO officers have been on the ground in key states talking with union members about the vital importance of getting out the vote, they’ve also joined in neighborhood walks and made phone calls alongside volunteers in union phone banks.

We’ve seen a lot of big numbers this election. The Koch brothers' super PAC spent $4 million to back the deceptive Prop 32. Billionaire Charles Munger Jr. kicked in $35 million against Prop. 30 and for Prop. 32. A shady Arizona group that refuses to disclose its donors funneled $11 million into our state to attack California schools and workers. But now, there’s only one number that matters: 35,000. That’s the number of union volunteers fanning out across the state, in communities big and small, to fight the big-money interests behind the attacks on Prop. 30 and the fraudulent ads backing Prop. 32.

According to a new Transport Workers (TWU) video, America's workers and their retirement security are simply "excess costs" to Mitt Romney. Romney thinks major corporations should be able to "shed" these costs any time they please, no matter the consequences to people's lives.
