Southwest Workers Say LUV Should Be All Around

It’s time for Southwest Airlines to share the “LUV,” and that’s the message the airline’s ground workers in contract negotiations with the airline will deliver to Southwest management Wednesday on “LUV” Day.

Members of Transport Workers (TWULocal 555, representing Southwest’s 9,000 ground workers, will be joined by TWU Local 556 members, representing Southwest’s 11,000 flight attendants, to deliver special Valentine’s Day cards wishing executives a happy “LUV Day,” with a message about serving customers, ensuring a solid future, negotiating fair contracts and keeping the “LUV” alive.

Union Members Play Big Part in Super Bowl Game Plan

In New Orleans this Super Bowl week, there are plenty of fans sporting 49ers' red and gold caps and jerseys and Ravens' purple and black gear. But there also are thousands of union members—including many from unions in the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO (GNO)—who proudly display their union label and are making the game possible and the fan experience in the Crescent City run smoothly.

Transport Workers Take on Allegiant Air for Abandoning Cities

Transport Workers (TWU) began running ads this week in the Provo Daily Herald, asking whether or not the airline, Allegiant, will actually be around to provide service to the community. In connection with the ads, TWU launched the website “WillAllegiantBeThere.org,” which includes an “UnRoute Map” of canceled service. Also on the website are reports of the low level of service the airline has provided in recent years.

Flight Attendants Win OSHA Protections

The nation’s flight attendants will gain workplace health and safety protection from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under a proposed new policy announced by OSHA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

While OSHA safety and health standards apply to most of America's workers, airline crews have been under the jurisdiction of the FAA since 1975, when the agency claimed exclusive jurisdiction over workplace safety and health for all crew members when they are on board the aircraft.

Caesars Palace Dealers, Represented by TWU, Celebrate Gaining a Voice on the Job

Dealers are the face of Las Vegas, says Jeff Jaeger, president of Transport Workers (TWU) Local 721. Caesars Palace dealers recently gained their first contract on the job. Now they have the protection that only a written contract can provide in terms of wages, health care, tips and other working conditions. The dealers organized with TWU.
