The Benefits of Joining the AFL-CIO

Today in America, the middle-class “squeeze” is becoming the middle-class crush.

Good jobs are being shipped overseas. Wages and incomes are falling. Rising health care costs are consuming more and more of our declining incomes—and 46 million are uninsured. Guaranteed pensions are in the crosshairs. Government leaders are giving tax cuts to millionaires while working to cut such family survival programs as Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, child support and student loans.

Unions, too, are under assault as never before, squeezed by coordinated attacks by employers and politicians.

The power of organizations working together in solidarity through the AFL-CIO is demonstrated again and again in organizing, bargaining, public policy, legislative and political victories at every level. Together, we can do far more for working families than any of us could do alone.
