Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on the Passing of Jack Joyce

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jack Joyce, former president of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union and former Executive Council Member of the AFL-CIO. An innovator and an intellectual, Joyce truly believed in the dignity of work and continuously used his talents, experiences and creativity to serve the interests of working men and women.

As president, he strengthened the Bricklayers through the expansion of apprenticeship and training opportunities, improving job safety, building broader membership, and the establishment of good labor-management practices – all of which have contributed to the creation of good jobs in the construction industry and strengthened collective bargaining for years to come.

We express our heart-felt gratitude to Jack Joyce for his lifetime of devoted service to working people in every sector of our society, and join his many friends and family in celebrating and carrying on his legacy.
