Statement by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka on Senator Jay Rockefeller Announcement

Senator Jay Rockefeller’s announcement of his intention to retire marks the end of a long and honorable chapter in an illustrious career of public service. Through his many elected positions in West Virginia and his leadership in the United States Senate, Jay Rockefeller improved the lives of working families and gave voice to their concerns. From protecting coal miners to fighting for health care reform, Senator Rockefeller maintained an unwavering commitment to doing what was right. Our nation would be better served with more leaders like him. His legacy leaves an everlasting mark on America and has made us a better country. And so it is with a heavy heart that we wish him well in his retirement.
