What I Do
Christy McGill, Art Teacher - Divide Elementary School, Lookout, WV.
Senator Frank Lautenberg, a great patriot and Senator, was a stalwart defender of workers’ rights. He never forgot his working class roots as he became enormously wealthy as an entrepreneur.
Until his passing, he was committed to fight for the empowerment of workers and for ensuring equal opportunity for everyone. As an extension of those values, he championed comprehensive immigration reform, including a roadmap to citizenship for 11 million people who are at risk each day of deportation.
Anyone who attempts to fill Senator Lautenberg’s shoes should be as committed to lifting up all workers and unions as Senator Lautenberg was throughout his decades of public service—as well as to fulfilling his pledge on behalf of millions of aspiring Americans and the communities being torn apart by the deportation crisis. Those were the values New Jersey voted for overwhelmingly when Senator Lautenberg won in 2008.
We hope and expect Governor Christie to appoint an interim Senator committed to carrying on Senator’s Lautenberg’s lifetime of work.
