Statement by AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt Baker and Florida AFL-CIO President Mike Williams on Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin could have been the child of any of us. No parent should ever have to bear the terrible loss of a child. Our heart goes out to all who loved him. The case of Trayvon Martin has deep meaning in Florida and in communities across the country. It calls into question the safety of our children and the integrity of a local criminal justice system. Working men and women expect our laws, our government and our justice system to uphold justice equally for all people. Anything less diminishes us all. And together we will settle for nothing less than a thorough, honest, diligent and timely effort to find truth and bring justice.
