Carla Ohringer Engle Joins AFL-CIO as State Communications Director

(Washington, DC – Nov. 24, 2014) The AFL-CIO has named Carla Ohringer Engle as State Communications Director. She will serve as the lead in developing strategy for field communications and oversee field and state communications staff.

“Carla has a depth of experience crafting communications strategy in a range of settings, making her perfectly positioned to oversee the various media strategies deployed throughout the country,” said Eric Hauser, AFL-CIO Strategic Advisor and Director of Communications. “We are excited that the labor movement will be able to utilize her expertise.”

Engle was most recently the treasurer and co-founder of Democracy Partners, a progressive consulting firm launched in the summer of 2011.  Additionally, since 2008, she served as the president of Progressive Strategies, a member of Democracy Partners. While at Progressive Strategies, Engle helped launch OpenLeft.com and consulted for a variety of different organizations including DailyKos, MoveOn.org, Ford Foundation, Democracy Alliance, Change to Win, Planned Parenthood, the Center for Community Change, and USAction. She has also served as the Executive Director of American Family Voices and the Director of the Progressive Donor Network.
