AFL-CIO State Leaders Warn Congress Against Lame Duck TPP Vote

Today, all 51 AFL-CIO state federation presidents displayed their solidarity in the fight against a lame duck TPP vote with a letter to Congress. The letter states: “The last thing the unaccountable lame-duck Congress should do is push through a job-killing trade deal written behind closed doors by corporate CEOs.”

“The grassroots opposition to TPP shows that working people across the country are standing up and fighting back against corporate trade deals,” said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. “For months we’ve seen the overwhelming opposition to this toxic deal grow. It would be irresponsible and unconscionable for members of Congress to defy their constituents and have a tainted vote on this deal.”

The AFL-CIO will hold a national call-in day on November 16. Activists from around the country will demand no TPP vote in the lame-duck session.
