(Washington, DC – September 16, 2015) – The AFL-CIO joined progressive and civil rights organizations on Capitol Hill to welcome the NAACP’s Journey for Justice Walk as it concluded its long march from Selma, AL to Washington, D.C.
“Today we stand with the NAACP and the Journey for Justice marchers to say our lives matter, our votes matter and that all working people deserve access to good jobs and a fair economy that benefits everyone and not just the wealthy and privileged few,” said AFL-CIO Executive Vice-President Tefere Gebre.
The walk aimed to advance a national agenda that advances a fair criminal justice system, uninhibited access to the ballot box, sustainable jobs with a living wage and equitable public education. Participants of the Journey for Justice Walk will meet with members of Congress today to advocate on behalf of these issues.
