The current wave of anti-immigrant legislation began with Arizona’s draconian, racial profiling law in 2010 and has spread through the nation, especially in southern states like South Carolina and Alabama. Civil rights leaders have likened Alabama’s harsh law that is breaking apart families and denying education to immigrant children to the old South’s infamous Jim Crow laws.
