Shoppers Food Warehouse Retaliating Against Workers

Chris Garlock is the coordinator of Union Cities Program of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO.

UFCW Local 400 is urging area activists to call Shoppers Food Warehouse – 1-855-746-7737 – to demand that management stop retaliating against workers. Local 400 has filed “multiple charges against Shoppers for violating the NLRA rights of our members there,” reports Strategic Contract Campaigns Coordinator Breanne Armbrust. These include changing Local 400 members' work schedules, telling them they can't talk to customers/co-workers, and harassing them when they shop as customers. Local 400 “is standing firm that we are within our rights and that our employer is attempting to have a chilling effect on the activism that we’ve been engaging in as part of our fight for a contract in 2012,” adds Armbrust.
