Why Are Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Important to You?

We're asking our blog readers to tell us how Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid impact their lives. We've been hearing from working families all over the country that Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are essential lifelines that we just can’t cut.

The upcoming lame-duck fight is urgent—we need stories from every single one of you to make sure Congress knows that these aren't just programs, they're your lives.

Here's a story from David K. of St. Louis (stories are unedited):

For most of the time I was a Sheet Metal worker, I was on dialysis. Medicare helped pay for my dialysis supplies, which enabled me to perform treatments at home and to continue working. When I eventually became too ill to continue working, Social Security was there for me and my family. These two essential programs were a lifesaving blessing for me. Without Medicare I could never had afforded the expensive dialysis treatments. These programs are lifesavers for thousands who suffer from kidney disease. We must not privatize social security or take funding away from Medicare.
