Tell Your Senators to End the Bush Tax Cuts for the Richest 2%

The U.S. Senate will vote tomorrow on a measure to end the Bush tax cuts for the nation’s richest 2 percent but maintain the cuts for middle-class families.

Senate Republicans are expected to filibuster the bill as they did last week with the Bring Jobs Home Act that would have cut taxes for U.S. companies that move jobs and business operations to the United States. That measure also would have ended tax loopholes that reward companies that ship jobs overseas.

Because of the filibuster, it will take 60 votes before the Senate can even take up the legislation. Call your senators at 888-744-9958 and tell them to vote for the Middle Class Tax Cut Act (S. 3412).

Not only do Republican lawmakers want to protect those big tax cuts for the rich, they want to raise taxes on working families. A report in The New York Times this morning outlines how the Republican plan would:

extend tax cuts for 2.7 million affluent families while allowing tax breaks to expire for 13 million on the bottom of the income spectrum.
