On Aug. 14, hundreds of cars from more than 30 California cities will join in a caravan to Bakersfield to visit Congressman Kevin McCarthy's (R-Calif.) office to tell him to support an immigration policy with a road map to citizenship. This is the first of many activities in support of a new immigration policy that California's working families are planning.

Maria Elena Durazo, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, explained the importance of speaking to McCarthy:
California has a representative in the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives and we call on him to demonstrate leadership that reflects California's values. An inspiring array of men and women and children, housekeepers and electricians, school employees and grocery workers, from one end of the state to the other will drive hundreds of miles to call on Rep. Kevin McCarthy to do the right thing for California and for our nation. California expects nothing less than a reliable, inclusive road map to citizenship in 2013.
