Be a Link in a Chain Against 'Chained' CPI
If you are in the Washington, D.C., area Thursday, come join hands with members of the Alliance for Retired Americans and the Congressional Progressive Caucus in a Human Chain Against "Chained" CPI on Capitol Hill.
The action kicks off at 10 a.m. EDT on the House Triangle of the U.S. Capitol. Click here for a map and to RSVP .
Many members of the U.S. House and Senate continue to press hard for the "chained" CPI benefit cut as part of a deal to reduce the deficit. The "chained" CPI proposal would reduce cost-of-living adjustments for Social Security and prevent benefits from keeping up with inflation. At age 75, a senior's benefits would be cut by about $650 per year (on average). At age 85, those benefits would be cut by about $1,150 per year, and at age 95, by about $1,600 per year. For more on what the "chained" CPI would do, go to the Alliance "Chained" CPI fact sheet .
If you can't join in person, join this virtual vigil against the "chained" CPI on Facebook .
With the government in an irresponsible House Republican shutdown, working families are standing strong against GOP hostage-taking budget actions and are calling for repeal of the job-killing sequester; rejection of any cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits; protection of food aid for the poor; and creation of jobs and raising hundreds of billions of dollars to invest in our future by ending all tax subsidies for outsourcing.
