In our regular weekly feature, we’ll be taking a look at the winners and losers of the week in the struggle for the rights of working families. The winners will be the persons or organizations that go above and beyond to expand or protect the rights of working families or working people who have fought for or won a significant victory. The losers will be whoever went above and beyond to limit or deny those rights or the working people who have lost a right or a battle for expanding or keeping their rights.
Winners: Federal contract workers, after President Barack Obama issued an executive order on Labor Day to extend paid sick leave to them.
Runner-Up: Bath and Body Works, for finally doing the right thing and promising to discontinue on-call scheduling.
Loser: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who is doing poorly in the presidential polls and has decided to target working people nationally now with one of the most dangerous packages of policy proposals offered by a presidential candidate in a long time.
Runner-Up: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is now bragging about his assault on retirement security in the state.
