Radio Host Rick Smith Goes on Labor History Tour Across America
Progressive radio host Rick Smith, a member of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), and his family, producer Brett Banditelli and writer Pat LaMarche recently embarked on a 7,800-mile cross-country trip to rediscover labor history . The Pennsylvania resident launched the trip on June 6 at the Talkers New York Conference as a way to counterbalance the domination of radio by conservative anti-labor talk radio hosts.
Of the trip's goals, Smith said:
The big boys might like it if they get a run for their money. While they victimize the little guy, it must be kind of disappointing that not enough of us call them on it. And I'm proud of my wife and kids who are willing to join me on this journey into America's majestic past. We've got a small radio slingshot, and we're aiming to hit the big boys right between the eyes.
The tour already has made stops in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Nevada, New York, Tennessee and Texas. The tour ends July 5 in Pittsburgh.
