McGarvey Elected Building Trades President

Sean McGarvey, who has served as secretary-treasurer of the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department (BCTD) since 2005, was elected president today by the BCTD’s Governing Board of Presidents.

He succeeds Mark Ayers, who died April 8.

McGarvey began his career with the Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) in 1981 as an apprentice glazier with Glazier’s Local 252 in Philadelphia, before earning journeyman status in 1984. He served in various local and international union capacities, including IUPAT government affairs director from 2002 until 2005.

BCTD has just posted a video tribute to Ayers. Click here to view and here for funeral arrangements.
