Kaiser Health Care Workers Take Public Health Campaign to the Streets

Kaiser Permanente health care workers are launching a “strike” at public health problems, including obesity and chronic disease. Today, more than 500 will kick off the campaign by taking over a major Hollywood tourist mecca, Hollywood and Highland.

The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions , part of a unique labor-management partnership that gives front-line workers a voice in health care decisions, says it's taking the public health campaign to the streets, schools and airwaves. The coalition, which represents nearly 100,000 workers at Kaiser Permanente medical centers, says it will be using union organizing techniques to tackle child nutrition problems, as well as lack of physical activity, fresh fruits and veggies, recreation and safe routes for walking to school and work.

If you’re in Hollywood, join the fun at 10:30 a.m., as health care workers dance to Beyonce’s public health video and hand out health education leaflets to passers-by.
