Celebrate Workers and Join a Labor in the Pulpits/on the Bimah/in the Minbar Event
What are you doing this Labor Day weekend to celebrate everything workers do to make our lives better and our communities strong?
Here are a couple ideas.
First, thank someone you know for all his or her hard work.
Next, take time out to honor the sacredness of work by joining with faith communities and union members through a Labor in the Pulpits/on the Bimah/in the Minbar event.
Each Labor Day weekend, Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ) and the AFL-CIO sponsor events to highlight the shared goals of the faith community and the union movement for a new vision for justice in our communities. Union members serve as guest speakers in congregations to speak out about their faith, work and the union movement. Some AFL-CIO central labor councils use this program as an opportunity to host a Faith and Labor meeting in which participants discuss important issues facing workers in their communities and reaffirm their shared commitments to social justice.
(If you’ve organized a Labor in the Pulpit event, let IWJ know.)
Here's how you can get involved.
- Find an interfaith event in your area.
- Hear from faith leaders who have led a Labor in the Pulpits/on the Bimah/in the Minbar event.
- Get resources to help celebrate Labor in the Pulpits tailored to a variety of faiths.
