A new season of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA's) award-winning hunting and fishing TV show, “Brotherhood Outdoors,” is under way, and the next episode features Plumbers and Pipe Fitters (UA) Local 412 member Dan Reyes on a New Mexico elk hunt. It airs at 11 a.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 10, on the Sportsman Channel.

Why not give your valentine some union-made sweets this Feb. 14? It turns out, there are many union-made treats you can give out on Valentine's Day. The iconic Necco candy Sweethearts conversation hearts are made by members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM). The 2013 Union Plus Scholarship application is now available but time is running out to apply. A complete application must be received on or before 12 p.m. EST on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

How does the Union Plus Scholarship Program work?

Under a white, wintry sky, nearly two-dozen union members volunteered to rebuild a 100-foot wooden bridge on a public trail in the Black Hills.

“When you’ve got skilled workers with the right tools, the work goes quick,” says Dana Garry, who manages the 109-mile Mickelson Trail for South Dakota’s Department of Game, Fish and Parks. In two days, the volunteers rebuilt abutments and replaced the bridge surface and railing. “It was just amazing,” she said. “These volunteers fill an important need.”

The red carpet and swanky evening wear added a dash of Hollywood drama to solidarity as members of SAG-AFTRA came together last night to hand out top prizes for performances at the 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center.

Today marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Sheet Metal Workers (SMWIA). The organization is celebrating by launching a new website, SMART 125, that will help chronicle the history of America's sheet metal workers by allowing site visitors to upload their own job site photos.
