Neidi Dominguez came to the United States at the age of nine with her mother and younger sister. In 2008, she graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I’ll tell you the truth, I watched the PBS documentary, MAKERS: The Women Who Make America, because one of our top staffers at the AFL-CIO and Working America—Karen Nussbaum—was in it.  I’m so glad I did.  I had forgotten what a steep climb it has been for women in this country.  It wasn’t that long ago women had little or no place in sports, culture, public life, or the workplace.

Is your mom someone special? Is she an immigrant? The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is spreading the word about winning dignity and respect for our immigrant moms, and for all immigrants, through a new Tumblr collection of stories called "Meet My Immigrant Mom."

With student loan debt surpassing $1 trillion, Union Plus is now offering grants to assist young labor activists with the high cost of their student loans.

Young labor activists who work full-time for an eligible labor union or affiliated labor organization can apply for a grant of up to $2,000 to help pay off their student loans.

A number of states are considering legislation that would allow workers to sue for on-the-job harassment and bullying that causes physical or emotional harm. Some employers have already instituted anti-bullying policies, but advocacy groups want a more comprehensive response to what has been a problem on the rise since the economic downturn began. More than a dozen states have considered legislation to combat on-the-job bullying in the past year.

Monday marked the 100th anniversary of the creation of the U.S. Department of Labor, which began when President William Howard Taft signed the legislation authorizing the department on his last day in office. The Labor Department launched a new website marking the centennial that includes a thorough history of the department, a close look at the current Labor Department and its mission, the future of labor and the department, a timeline of key events, historical documents and much more.
