Youngstown Nurses Stand Up for Patient Care
Nurses at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio, conducted a one-day work stoppage Tuesday in their fight against management contract proposals that, among other provisions, would prohibit nurses from speaking out about patient safety and quality care, according to the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association ( YGDNA ).

They returned to work this morning and hospital management selectively locked out a number of nurses who were scheduled to work. YGDNA President Eric Williams said:
All of our nurses reported for duty this morning as scheduled and management told some of us that we would not be allowed to work. Community Health Systems (CHS) and local management are locking out nurses who courageously stood up for patient care.

The nurses have been working without a contract for 15 months. During this time, there have been on and off negotiations. Williams said:
We're ready and willing to bargain around the clock to reach an agreement. But we have to have someone to talk to.
