Workers Getting More Vacation Days But Not Paid Sick Days
A Los Angeles Times article reported today that workers get more vacation time these days but fewer paid sick days .
The article reveals that workers have gained more vacation days over the past two decades, but they have not gained or have actually lost paid sick days. So is more vacation days the route companies are taking to make up for fewer paid sick days?
According to the article, some argue:
This is good news, considering the widespread advice from researchers about the psychic and professional benefits of taking vacations.
Yet earned paid sick days and earned vacation time should not be a zero sum game.
The Times reports:
For the average full-timer whoās been at his or her company for a year, paid sick time has dropped to eight days from 10 days in 1993, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Thatās the exact reverse of the increase in vacation.
