BART Strike Delayed for at Least 60 Days

It was announced yesterday, the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) strike was blocked for a 60-day cooling-off period. A San Francisco Superior Court judge ordered the period requested by California Gov. Jerry Brown.

Brown had requested that the judge order a 60-day cooling off period to block the two unions that represent the workers, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1555 and Service Employees International Union Local 1021, from holding a work stoppage to halt the BART train system.  The Pleasanton Weekly News reported that union and BART leaders resumed negotiations Saturday night on wages, pension benefits and other issues but failed to come to a resolution before the judge issued his order.
