Juicy Buns, Justice and Tax Fairness
Justice triumphed in the squared circle in downtown Raleigh, N.C., in a masked Mexican luchadoras (female wrestlers) Tax Day rumble that pitted Juicy Buns, wrestling as “The People’s Champion,” against corporate-created and -backed “Champion of the Powerful,” The Scrambler.
With a fair fight for taxes nearly impossible with corporations and the wealthy throwing their heavyweight influence around in Congress and state legislatures, the North Carolina State AFL-CIO staged today’s “Fair Fight” to spotlight the move by Tar Heel lawmakers to shift the tax burden of the state’s wealthiest and corporations onto middle- and low-income working families.
The bout drew a big and vocal crowd—mostly Juicy Buns fans, but with a smattering of cash-laden corporate lackeys ready to fix the match for The Scrambler. Even before the pair stepped inside the ropes, a pre-match Twitter rumble (see below) set the tone.
Tax Fairness is for chumps who can't afford to buy politicians who do their bidding. Cough, @ju_c_buns. #fairfight #ncpol

@th3_scrambler is gonna get schooled, today. Tax cheats never win! fairfightnc.tumblr.com #ncpol #fairfight

Fairness flew out of the ring when The Scrambler’s minions passed her bags of corporate campaign cash and she began pummeling Juicy Buns, just as corporations use their power to pound out tax cut victories over working people.
But buoyed by the cheering crowd, Juicy Buns recovered and was able to take The Scrambler down to the canvas and then, to seal the victory, climbed the corner ropes and launched herself backward from the turnbuckle to finish the bout.
