In the States Roundup for June 6

Here's a look at some of the key battles in the states over the past week.

California: The state Assembly referred a bill to establish an online voter registration system to the Senate Committee on Elections and Redistricting. The Assembly also passed a separate bill that would require the secretary of state to provide information on all ballot initiatives and referendums online. That bill now goes to the Senate for approval.

Florida: Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed a bill that requires counties to provide for eight to 14 days of early voting, which reversed a controversial 2011 law that helped create long lines in numerous highly populated counties in the state.

New Hampshire: The state House passed a bill that would allow more forms of identification to be used to qualify for the state's voter ID law passed in 2012, but the Senate amended the current legislation to limit the forms of acceptable identification. The law that passed in 2012 will be implemented before the 2013 municipal elections and will allow local election officials to eliminate the use of forms of identification such as student IDs and birth certificates, making New Hampshire have the most restrictive voter ID law in the country, if the current legislation fails to pass. The new legislation is currently in front of a conference committee and both versions of the bill would delay the voter ID implementation from 2013 to 2015.

Nevada: A bill passed the state legislature that would extend voter registration through the end of early voting, but Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) said he would veto the legislation. A separate bill, A.B. 441, passed the legislature that creates polling locations where voters registered in any precinct can vote. The governor has until June 14 to act upon the bill.

Pennsylvania: A voting rights modernization bill passed the state House unanimously but is currently stuck in committee in the Senate. The legislation would create a new online voter registration system.
