Act Now to Stop Missouri Paycheck Deception Bill

The paycheck deception law proposed in Missouri would create burdensome restrictions that interfere with union members’ rights to participate in the political and legislative process. These laws also weaken the ability of working people to advance working family issues such as legislation that would create jobs and stop job outsourcing. Missouri AFL-CIO President Hugh McVey sent the following alert to working family activists:

I'm writing you with very disappointing news and an urgent call to action. After more than eight hours of filibuster, the Missouri Senate advanced S.B. 29, paycheck deception.

Now Missouri House extremists could cross a line today, and we're counting on you to say enough is enough.

In any form, attacks on workers like "right to work" for less, paycheck deception and attempts to eliminate the prevailing wage need to be stopped. With just two days before legislators take spring break off, special interest groups are pushing hard to pass legislation that will hurt Missouri's middle class.

Call your representative now at 888-907-9711 and urge him or her to oppose paycheck deception, "right to work" and anti-prevailing wage bills.

There isn't much time left. Call today to speak with your state representative. The attacks in the Missouri legislature have been unrelenting, and we need to keep the phone calls and emails coming. "Right to work," paycheck deception and attempts to gut our prevailing wage protections are all part of an organized national plan to eliminate the voice of middle-class workers.

Your elected officials need to know that we’re counting on them to stop these attacks by standing strong against anti-worker legislation.

It’s urgent that your legislators hear from you today. Call 888-907-9711 now.

In solidarity,

Hugh McVey
President, Missouri AFL-CIO

P.S. After you call, send your legislators an email, too.
