5 Facts About Attack on Cincinnati Workers’ Retirement Security
Cincinnati voters will decide this fall on a ballot measure to eliminate pensions for city workers that was written by an extremist right-wing think tank , funded by unnamed out-of-state interests and promoted by tea party activists.
BTW, the amendment to the city’s charter is opposed by most Queen City lawmakers because, according to the head of the city’s retirement system , the measure “actually increases the financial stress to the city.”
Here are five facts about the groups behind attacks on Cincinnati workers’ retirement security:
- It won’t disclose its funders, most likely because they aren’t from Ohio.
- It paid a California firm $70,000 to gather petition signatures.
- It includes tea party leaders who supported S.B. 5/Issue 2 that eliminated collective bargaining rights for public employees in Ohio. ( Voters repealed the law in November 2011 .)
- One of the groups pushing so called “right to work” for less wrote the language for the ballot amendment.
- Its spokesperson, Gary Greenberg, is from a law firm that works to prevent workers from exercising their right to a collective voice on the job .
