Meet Mr. 1%: Here’s What You Say
Last week we launched our Meet Mr. 1% website with shareable infographics on Mitt Romney’s record as a state governor, his overseas bank accounts and his economic attack plan that would harm working families. The graphics also highlight, with Romney at its helm, that Bain killed and outsourced jobs and pushed companies into bankruptcy.
Here are some of the “greatest hits” remarks from our commenters. John DeRosier writes:
If Romney & Co. want to talk about jobs, the economy and Romney's record, then let them. Let them talk about how the Republicans opposed the stimulus package that saved thousands of jobs in the auto industry, let them talk about how and why they oppose the American Jobs Act and let them explain to us just how they intend to vote on the Bring Back the Jobs Act. Let them address just how many jobs Bain sent to other countries or why they say that corporations are people. Let them explain why they oppose giving tax breaks to companies that hire people. And finally, let them try and explain to us why Republicans like Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and Eric Cantor should keep their jobs in Congress.
GOP senators recently voted against the Bring Jobs Home Act DeRosier referred to.
Bob Kraves writes:
Private business can't do anything without our government building the roads, bridges, dams, etc. It is a mutual undertaking and anyone not knowing this is an idiot. Presently, corporations and the 1% are running this country labor there is no pie or middle class.
MelLogan writes:
Business does not create customers but customers create business. I think part of the businessman's ingratitude to those who created the economy before them (Post roads, Erie Canal, Transcontinental RR, TVA, funding factories for WWII, Freeway system, etc.) is just plain arrogance and greed.
On Facebook, our commenters had a lot to say about Mr. 1%:
“He wants to pull the rug out from under the 99% and give it to the 1%.”—Marilynn Murray
“In typical 1% fashion he gave tax breaks to the wealthy paid for by the working folks.”—Christopher Ryan
“Correction, that needs to be Mr. 0.01%.”—Greg Simmons
Facebook commenter Sharon Rufo Koperek writes:
Bain Capital has made billions in profits by systematically slashing wages and benefits, shuttering plants and shipping thousands of jobs overseas. In the Bain model, companies are bought up, downsized and bankrupted—then sold off to the highest bidder. Company executives get rich destroying the livelihoods of workers, families and entire towns with no sign of remorse.
It’s the exact same ‘profits over people’ mentality that guides MittWitt’s vision for the American economy: more jobs sent offshore, fewer jobs here at home and slave-labor wages for the few that remain. [Romney] was my governor for four years in Massachusetts and he dropped us to 47th in job creation, closed a business he could have helped for his buddies at Bain and left my state billions in debt....
You can share the Meet Mr. 1% infographics and video on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
