Governments Get a Big, Fat 'F' for Tackling Unemployment

Trade union leaders from G20 countries are meeting this week at the Labor 20 (L20) Summit in Moscow to tackle the world's biggest problems, including rising unemployment, alarming levels of youth unemployment and the overall lack of jobs.

The  ITUC Global Poll 2013 prepared for the G20 Labor and Finance Ministers meeting highlighted how the public views the jobs and economic crisis:

  • 80% of respondents in the ITUC Global Poll 2013 say their government has failed to effectively tackle unemployment in their country.
  • 86% of respondents want tax evasion to stop and 80% also are open to raising taxes for large companies.
  • 99% of respondents favor laws that protect the right to strike (97% favor in the United States).
  • 91% of respondents favor the right to collectively bargain (79% favor in the United States).
  • 91% of respondents favor laws that protect the right to join a union (80% in the United States).
